Steve McQueen loved riding motorcycles. He loved it so much that he actually appears, uncredited, in the dirt bike scenes of a movie or two from low budget schlockmeister Lee Frost - check out Dixie Dynamite, where he did uncredited dirt bike stunt work for a couple of hundred bucks at the height of his fame.
McQueen was always looking out for new bikes to buy; some he would ride, some he would use for parts. The Great Escape stuntman Bud Ekins talks about McQueen’s buying technique: “He’d tell the seller, ‘Don’t you want to be able to say you sold your bike to Steve McQueen?’ And it worked.”
Don’t you want to be able to say you bought your bike from Steve McQueen? If the answer to that is yes and you have about 50 to 70 grand laying around, you’re in luck. McQueen’s 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross is up for auction, and it’s listed as still being in ‘last ridden by McQueen’ condition. You can see him riding the actual bike in the image above.
For the spendy McQueen fan this could be too good an opportunity to pass up. Click here to check out the auction listing.
