This Is What Sacha Baron Cohen Looks Like In THE DICTATOR
Paramount has sent over the first look at Sacha Baron Cohen’s character in The Dictator, a romantic comedy that is based on a book written by Saddam Hussein. Seriously.
I know some people who have read the script and they tell me it’s sort of Borat meets fascism; let’s hope for something a bit more interesting than that. Larry Charles is directing, so I hold out hope.
The novel on which the film is based is called Zabibah and the King, and it’s sort of an allegorical story about Iraq and Saddam Hussein, and it’s set in ancient times. This movie version will obviously be taking lots of liberties with the source material, moving it to the modern day and having Cohen playing a dictator who comes to New York and falls in love.
