Shocker: PIRATES 4 Makes 1 Billion Dollars, Johnny Depp Convinced To Come Back For PIRATES 5

When Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides came out Johnny Depp was non-committal about doing a fifth film.

In May he told the Hollywood Reporter: “It’s not something where I would say, ‘Let’s shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012.’ We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me.”

Well, I guess they found something special for him, since The Wrap is reporting that Depp is about to sign on for the fifth film. In another story on the same site we may have some understanding of just what it is that’s appealing to Johnny: his deal on the pictures has earned him $350 MILLION so far.

Which makes you wonder why he makes shit like The Tourist. Or On Stranger Tides, for that matter. The irony of Johnny Depp is that he found success on his own terms, but then as soon as he got successful he just threw himself whole into whoredom. And seeing how bored he seemed in On Stranger Tides I have to imagine that it’s simply the money bringing him back to Jack Sparrow at this point.

Now we wait for Pirates 5 to be terrible, make a billion dollars and then he can sign on to Pirates 6...
