Trailer For Scorsese’s HUGO Has Some Aggressive 3D
How will Martin Scorsese use 3D? Judging by the trailer for Hugo (the bad new name for The Invention of Hugo Cabret), quite aggressively. The trailer has all sorts of things, from hands to dogs to trains, just lunging towards the camera. To which I say: hooray!
The trailer is lovely - the set design looks impeccable - but there’s something bloodless about it. Maybe it’s just the way the trailer is cut, but I’m not getting the larger picture of wonder or magic or adventure. I’m completely open-minded, of course - this is Scorsese! - but I’m starting to wonder if this wasn’t more of a technical exercise for him.
