It Is My Sad Duty To Report That Garrett Hedlund Is The Frontrunner To Star In Live Action AKIRA

The adaptation of the manga/anime is greenlit, and Warner Bros is being boring in their casting choices.

Akira Tron: Legacy

The latest director attached to the largely-a-bad-idea project is Jaume Collet-Serra, the madman who directed The Orphan and Unknown. While I would prefer to see Collet-Serra pursue his own unique vision of cinema, I guess you could do way worse when it comes to directors for a movie that probably shouldn't even be attempted.

That said, I don't know if you can do worse than Hedlund as the lead! I'm not quite sure what it is that Hollywood sees in this guy - he must be so fucking good in the room that it makes everybody forget that he's terrible in everything else. I caught some of him in Country Strong recently and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I guess he was okay in Four Brothers, right? Is that what keeps getting him roles?

I don't mean to hate on Garrett Hedlund, but he's the epitome of Hollywood's obsession with absolute zeroes as leading men. I shudder to think who they'll get to play Tetsuo; probably some guy from The Vampire Diaries or that Lautner kid or somebody.
