This Is What Sam Raimi’s Green Goblin MIGHT Have Looked Like

The Green Goblin wore a mask in Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN, but what if he had been created using make-up? Raimi did make-up tests, and now they're online.

This could be Old News, but it's new to me - at least the footage above is new to me. It's a make-up test for the Green Goblin in Spider-Man, from a point in the production when director Sam Raimi was considering having Norman Osborne actually change into a monster. In the end the director went with a largely derided mask for the character.

The Green Goblin problem has always been an interesting one; in the comics Norman Osborne wore a mask, but it was the comics, so  the mask had a full range of facial expressions. Suspension of disbelief and all that. It's harder to do that in the movies, and having Osborne change into an actual monster seemed like a potential middle ground. As the video above shows this Goblin would have been plenty creepy looking, and it would have had the ability to really emote. But in the end Raimi went for the Power Rangers-esque mask.

What do you think? Would this Goblin make-up have made a huge difference in the film?
