The Closest We’ll Come to Being Rebecca Hall’s Betrothed in This Week’s Holy Hunter of Music Videos
Settle down, Joni Mitchell purists. I have it on good authority that post-dubstep crooner James Blake was given her official backstage blessing to cover the original. “A Case of You” was released on the EP Enough Thunder this past fall, but only recently received the remarkably filmed and lit video treatment by director Seb Edwards, who handles his version of the lovelorn classic with kid gloves. We’re also quite fortunate to shadow timeless beauty Rebecca Hall (A Bag of Hammers, Vicky Cristina Barcelona) POV-style through her one bedroom apartment. Claustrophobia? Cabin fever? Never heard of such things. Let’s just say it’s an emotional roller coaster I’d be willing to ride again. Let’s also leave out the part where I pressed play with my head cocked to the right. It’s really only entirely creepy if you stretch, yawn and beam back at her.
Post first listen it should come as no surprise that Brooklyn based psyche rock three-piece Prince Rama are signed to Animal Collective’s label, Paw Tracks. To elucidate, the two sisters and their close friend met while living on a Floridian Krishna farm. The song doesn’t really begin until the 2:20 mark, so I suggest starting there if you’re the antsy type. Then it’s on with the questionably infectious chanting, a lady spitting up more tinsel than my cat at Christmas and possibly the same makeup artist from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Give It Away” video. I hear you’re supposed to lose yourself in this kind of music, so please don’t forget you’re always in the last place you look. That means you, Amelia Earhart.
Swiftly making a name for himself as a triumphant NYC beat maker, FaltyDL’s (a.k.a. Drew Lustman) “My Light, My Love” is probably one of the more accessible and subdued tracks off of his debut Ninja Tune EP, Atlantis. And keeping with that hindmost theme, director Jakob Haglof takes us on an animated, heart-tugging underwater jaunt alongside a man piloting a submarine alone. Later his dockside, brunette love interest confesses via periscope that she just needs more time--while I believe she just needs gchat.
