Louis C.K. Is The Coolest

Louis C.K. made over a million dollars in less than two weeks by selling his comedy special BEACON solely through his website, and here's how he plans to spend that money.

Louis C.K. became fed up with not receiving any royalty checks for his comedy specials sold through traditional outlets like Netflix or DVDs. So he decided to buck the system by self-producing his most recent special, Live At The Beacon Theater, and sold it directly to fans via his website for $5 a pop paid through PayPal. He added that the file hasĀ "no regional restrictions, no crap. You can download this file, play it as much as you like, burn it to a DVD, whatever."

In under two weeks, he's made a cool million, and in the interest of transparency to the fans that provided the green, he's posted an image of his PayPal statement.

He states that receiving a million dollars all at once like that is kind of silly, so he intends to break it up fairly equally four ways: $250k to recoup the production expenses, $250k as bonuses for his staff, $280k to various charities (The Fistula Foundation, The Pablove Foundation, charity: water, Kiva and Green Chimneys) and $220k to keep for himself, for rent, his children and to do "terrible, horrible things with and none of that is any of your business."

I just feel like all of this is pretty wonderfully punk, and I dig it more than I can say. I also dig the fact that he ends the blog with a typically uncomfortable signature that I can just hear him say aloud: "I will now stop bugging you. I really hate being in the news this much so I'm gonna just disappear for a while."

You can pay $5 to watch Live At The Beacon Theater here, and you really should.
