In 1994, Clerks won the Filmmakers Trophy and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. The film went on to gross over $3 million, playing on only fifty screens, with a hugely positive critical response. Clerks also inspired a fervent loyalty among Kevin Smith fans despite Smith's best attempts to the contrary. But whatever Smith's output has been of late, nothing can diminish the wicked charm of this modestly budgeted little gem.
