For some reason people were really excited about Matthew Broderick reprising his Ferris Bueller role for a Honda commercial during the Super Bowl. Bueller, of course, is the ultimate Reagan-era middle class white selfish prick, exactly the kind of guy who probably grew up to crash the US economy. I wouldn't be surprised if he worked at Freddie Mac, or was one of George W Bush's main advisors.
But the commercial is actually just Matthew Broderick, actor, taking the day off. In his Honda. And mostly re-enacting scenes from the movie, but in LA. It's not really very good at all. It IS sort of irritating in the same Ferris Bueller way - as millions of Americans are out of work, here's this smug jerk running around town, ducking out from the oh-so-tough responsibilities of being a semi-famous actor. That'll sell some cars.
