This year marks the 30th anniversary of the summer of 1982, a summer that contained an unequaled run of great movies. Look at the list:
CONAN THE BARBARIAN
THE ROAD WARRIOR
POLTERGEISTSTAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN
To celebrate this amazing year, the Alamo Drafthouse is doing a screening series - showing these movies on the weekends they were originally released! The Alamo is teaming up with some websites to cohost, and of course we're in on the goodness. We'll be hosting the Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan screening on the 3rd of June.
That's right, this summer you can come to Texas and relive the magic of that summer - or enjoy it for the first time, you young whippersnapper. The Alamo team is working to make sure that the trailers that run before the films are THE SAME trailers you would have seen that weekend in '82, and there will be special guests galore. Oh, and expect Mondo prints for select films.
Click here to visit the Alamo Summer of 82 page, where you'll eventually be able to buy tickets and where you can see the complete schedule. We're announcing this pretty far out so that you can make plans to finally come to the Republic of Texas and enjoy a movie at the fabled Alamo - you have months and months notice! And Austin is super nice in the summer.
By the way, we have been unable to firm up Blade Runner... yet. The crack team of Alamo programmers are still working on it, and I think they'll be able to pull it off. In the meantime, keep watching that amazing trailer that was put together by the inimitable Tommy Swenson.
