Paul Williams Is Working With Daft Punk, Maybe Guillermo Del Toro

The legendary songwriter reveals some awesome new plans.

Yesterday the delightful documentary Paul Williams: Still Alive played at the SXSW Film Festival, and in the Q&A afterwards Williams dropped some bombshells.

Bombshell 1: He has written some songs for Daft Punk, and has recorded some stuff they may use. This material will appear on their new album, coming maybe June. This is pretty exciting because I honestly can't hear in my head how a Daft Punk/Paul Williams collaboration sounds. I like things that aren't obvious.

Bombshell 2: He wouldn't say much, but Williams said he was in the early stages of doing something with Guillermo del Toro. It's vague, but it gets the imagination racing. GdT is a big Williams fan (especially Phantom of the Paradise), so I know whatever they're talking about it'll be cool. Imagine the two of them teaming up on a weird musical? I'd be blown away.

April is reviewing Paul Williams: Still Alive, but I may weigh in as well - it's my favorite film of the festival so far.
