Fox Producing Viral Comic AXE COP

A viral comic written by a 5-year-old and illustrated by his 29-year-old brother will air in a new Saturday night animation block on Fox.

In 2010, 5-year-old Malachai Nicolle and his 29-year-old brother established the viral sensation known as Axe Cop, a web comic featuring the well-meaning hijinks of an axe-wielding police officer and his cohorts (including Flute Cop, Dinosaur Soldier and - my personal favorite - Uni-Baby, a baby "so smart she grew a unicorn horn out of her head.")

Malachai writes the delightfully absurdist comic and his brother Ethan, an Eisner Award-nominated comic artist and writer, illustrates it. Axe Cop is the first project developed by Fox's new Animation Domination HD, the new alt-animation assignment led by Nick Weidenfeld, formerly of Adult Swim.

Fox has ordered six fifteen-minute episodes to be aired within a ninety-minute block of first-run animation programs playing opposite Saturday Night Live next year and also available digitally. It's a solid plan and Axe Cop is a brilliant first play. You can read the entirety of Axe Cop here (do! It's fast and a blast), and read more about the Fox deal at the link below.
