Jeez You Got A Big Pussy: First LIFE OF PI Picture
The first image from Ang Lee's adaptation of Yann Martel's bestseller.
I like a good kid trapped on a lifeboat with a tiger story as much as the next guy, but Life of Pi felt to me like facile feel-good bullshit when I read it way back when. It also felt really, really uncinematic, as the main plot has a kid trapped on a life boat with a tiger for much of the running time. I don't know how long you can really sustain that in a movie.
But if anybody can it's Ang Lee. Is it possible a guy like Lee is still undervalued? I think he may be, and I think that his version of Life of Pi will be worth seeing if for no other reason than the picture above, courtesy of Criterion Cast, indicates the film will be gorgeous.
