Purgatory Pizza Exists in This Week’s Holy Hunter of Music Videos
Savoring an on-again, off-again solo career prior to his tenure with Fleet Foxes, the drummer for the folk set unleashed an eighth ambitious studio album under the moniker Father John Misty. In the Grant James-directed video for Fear Fun’s title track we delight in a cameo from Mr. Show’s John Ennis (!) who takes the shape of the frontman’s huffy boss at a pizza parlor where one should think twice before ordering the hand-tossed crust.
Toronto-based avant pop musicians Phèdre are interestingly enough estranged cousins and also Greek mythology enthusiasts. Directed by the artists themselves, the video for “Aphrodite” is simply a visual representation of a typical, free and easy family reunion for the bunch. Honestly, I came for the Stephin Merritt-like bass laden vocals and stayed for the crab claw necklace. And I was going to joke that you can’t find the latter on Etsy until I found the latter on Etsy.
Meet The Hickey Underworld, an Antwerp-based rock band with a name somehow less peculiar than the title of their second album, I’m Under The House I’m Dying. Admittedly, I’ll feel quite silly if that’s some sort of SOS. Director Joe Vanhoutteghem is at the helm as we follow a string of bloody characters through a wholly vicious circle. I urge you to decide against embarrassing yourself in an attempt to utter “Antwerp timewarp” five times fast.
