Houston Is Getting Two New Alamo Drafthouse Theaters

And I am so happy about it!

This is a really big deal to me. I live in Houston and I often feel that it's on the cusp of being a really great, film-centric city. It's certainly filled with people who are passionate about movies. The Aurora Picture Show, the MFAH Film Department, the Downtown Alliance - there are so many great organizations here promoting the love of film in Houston, Texas. And none better than the Alamo Drafthouse, which has thrived with two locations that aren't particularly convenient to central Houston, but which offer such spectacular events and movies that we're all willing to drive out there anyway.

And now the company's expanding, offering two new locations of great movies, events, beer and food to Houstonians. Northwest Houston is getting a theater, and we're finally getting that long-coveted inner loop location. It's a great spot, convenient to downtown, Midtown, museum district, Rice and Montrose and with plenty of room for a beautiful, spacious theater.

I love living in Houston; I think it's a dynamic, diverse, beautiful, culturally-inclined city. And it's about to get even better.

From the press release:

(HOUSTON, Texas, May 30, 2012) – Triple Tap Ventures LLC, owner and operator of the Houston area Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations in West Oaks Mall and on Mason Road in Katy, Texas, is pleased to announce it will bring two new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations to Houston in 2013.

The first new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is slated to open in Northwest Houston in early 2013 and will be located in the Vintage Park Shopping Village off of Tomball Parkway 249 and Louetta Road. Owned by Texas-based Dunhill Partners, Vintage Park Shopping Village consists of sixteen buildings and includes approximately 324,000 square feet of ground floor retail and professional facilities – all built with the finest quality materials and designed to resemble a Venetian Piazza complete with bell towers, fountains, monuments and classical architecture. William L. Hutchinson, President, Dunhill Partners Inc. states, "We are extremely pleased to have the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema coming soon to Vintage Park Shopping Village and joining our other fine retail and dining experiences. We look towards their opening with great anticipation, adding to the overall entertainment choices at Vintage Park.”  The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vintage Park will be a state-of-the-art location. Each of the auditoriums will be 100 percent equipped with high-tech digital projection, screens that feature excellent ratios to the size of the rooms, sound that will blow your socks off and exceptional food to enjoy while being entertained.

“We are tremendously excited to be bringing the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema experience to the communities of Northwest Houston,” states Triple Tap Ventures President, Neil Michaelsen. “We look forward to sharing our unparalleled programming, which features the best first-run Hollywood films, Alamo-exclusive signature events and celebrity guest appearances – all accompanied by our renowned rotating menu and craft beer selection that can be ordered and enjoyed right from your seat in the theatre. We will continue to serve the local Houston film industry in addition to bringing to town renowned international events such as the Tribeca Film Festival.”

The second new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, scheduled to open after Vintage Park, is a highly anticipated inner-loop location, which will be centrally accessible and located in Houston’s bustling Midtown area. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Midtown will be located at 2901 Louisiana Street as part of a mixed-use project developed by Crosspoint Properties and, like Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vintage Park, will offer state-of-the-art auditoriums featuring 100 percent digital projection and sound as well as an expansive and inviting lobby bar which will be visible from Milam Street and boast panoramic views of Houston’s impressive downtown skyline. In addition, there will be a ground floor lobby entrance leading up to the theatre, which will be located on top of a three floor parking garage.

“We are thrilled and excited to be announcing the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Midtown and to have the opportunity to bring our unique experience to our existing inner-loop customers as well as introduce the Alamo brand to a new audience,” Michaelsen states. “The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Midtown will no doubt be the epicenter for movie going entertainment for the 700,000 plus residents living within 15 minutes of the new theater and a must-visit destination for those located around the Houston area. We greatly appreciate our strong relationships with inner-loop organizations such as Aurora Picture Show, the Downtown Management District, Market Square Park, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Whole Foods and many more, and look forward to creating new partnerships with our Midtown neighbors.”

Triple Tap Ventures will officially close the older Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at West Oaks Mall this year. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at West Oaks has thoroughly enjoyed serving its guests in the West Houston area but is excited to provide more state of the art options for Houstonians to enjoy the amazing experience of seeing first-run Hollywood and art house films, indulge in fantastic food and attend the signature programming events that set the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema apart from every other theater in the world. Michaelsen concludes, “Our new Vintage Park and Midtown locations will, along with our existing location off of Mason Road in Katy, continue to raise the high bar we set for ourselves, to ensure every guest has an awesome experience and is excited to come back.”
