Fox Goes Big Summer ‘14: New Spielberg, FIRST CLASS & APES Sequels Plus 3D ID4 In ‘13

There was probably a more elegant way to word that headline. Anyway, the RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES sequel has a title and we're pleased.

Fox has announced that they're going all in on Summer 2014 with a trio of tentpoles. And they're staking a claim in 2013 with a rerelease of Independence Day. In 3D, of course.

Spielberg's Robopocalypse has been moved to April 25th, 2014 - aka, The Avengers slot. That leaves Pacific Rim looking like the king of Summer 2013, by the way. Also announced alongside Robopocalypse are the sequels to X-Men: First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The X-Men film is yet untitled and will be released July 18th, while the new Apes has the AWESOME title Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and will be getting the big Memorial Day weekend space.

ID4's rerelease will be on July 3rd, 2013 - which was the date that Robopocalypse had. The same people who post-converted Titanic will do this film; I'm interested in seeing how the pre-CGI FX hold up. Well, I'll bet.

But for me the most exciting news is Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. What a cool title! Evocative! Exciting! Sort of reminds me of Dawn of the Dead! Now I have a new reason to keep staying alive.
