Down with O.P.P. (Other People’s Pets) in This Week’s Holy Hunter of Music Videos

Metronomy returns steeped in obscurity with a selection from French electronic/ambient pioneer Jean Michel Jarre’s late seventies catalogue and a welcomed cover of the mesmeric track “Hypnose.” It’s an undoubtedly basic concept cut precisely to inspire that giddy, piercing animal lover’s voice we bury deep and pull from the tailbone when a Welsh Corgi crosses our path. Stay tuned until the end for some serious turtle power.

Gainesville-based quintet Hundred Waters, with the help of director/animator Martin Allais, concoct a splendid, animated backdrop for the offering “Thistle” - an extension of the group’s seemingly limitless blend of genres from classical to folk, electronica and unadulterated pop. Morbid as it may be, the pony tale does begin with his piñata-like neck noosed, a papier-mâché body alternately broken from the inside and a pair of saving scissors at just the right moment to flip the script. And perhaps we’re divided here as a people. One half hopes for the latter while the other lets nature take its course. After all, he might be full of Bit-O-Honeys.

Keeping with a theme of sorts, Warp Records veteran Flying Lotus (aka Steven Ellison) is no stranger to the experimental electronic and thusly multi-genre world. And to make this a grand finale on some levels I’m taking liberties to share his latest video for “Until the Quiet Comes” which is actually more of a short film and amalgamated mix of a few recognizable tracks. Kahlil Joseph is at the helm and the imagery is without a doubt, impactful.
