Behind The Scenes On Universal’s DRACULA Restoration

The 1931 classic has been carefully cleaned up for high definition Blu release. See how they did it. Also: find out how to get the Universal Monsters set dirt cheap!

Today Universal's 8 film Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection hits Blu. It has cleaned up, hi-def versions of Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Dracula, The Phantom of the Opera, The Mummy, The Invisible Man and, for the first time on Blu, Creature From the Black Lagoon 3D. Obviously these movies needed some work to get them to hi-def standards, and this clip shows you a little bit of how Dracula was cleaned up. I don't have my copy of the Blu yet, but I like what I see here - they've kept the mono track but made it more audible, and they've crispened the picture nicely. I've seen screenings of older prints of most of these movies and they're often unintelligble and almost unwatchable.

By the way, if you haven't bought this set yet let me recommend getting it from Amazon UK, where it's region free and half the price. These are the exact same discs with the same features but cheaper. You can order it here.
