Holy Motors, the latest film from Leos Carax (his first in about a decade) is an undeniable masterpiece, a work of astonishing, moving art. This trailer captures some of the visual beauty of the movie, but beware attempting to understand the film based on what you see here; the movie is a complicated, strange and utterly surreal experience where narrative comes in a distant third or fourth behind mood and emotion.
The movie is now playing in New York City and is coming to Los Angeles. Film Crit Hulk reviewed it for us out of Fantastic Fest. I have been wrestling with putting my thoughts about the movie into words; I'll keep trying.
