Johnny Depp May Star In TRON-Like Movie For Wally Pfister

The DARK KNIGHT DP is making his directorial debut - maybe with Depp's help.

Wally Pfister, the cinematographer of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight movies, is preparing to make his directorial debut. And he's making it big, with a scifi movie called Transcendence, and he may get Johnny Depp to star in it.

In a press release the Oscar-winning Pfister (who recently shit all over The Avengersstorytelling in an interview) makes it sound like Depp is pretty much a lock: “I'm thrilled, and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Johnny. He is a creative and intelligent artist whom I feel will bring great depth to the character and the overall narrative."

So what's Transendence about? Sounds like a Tron riff to me. From Hollywood Reporter:

Plot details have been closely guarded, but sources say the film is described as in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Inception.

The story centers on a man who creates a computer that develops a malevolent awareness. Depp will play a husband who gets sucked into the computer, contigent on changes Pfister is making to the script, sources say.

Not in the vein of Tron? COME ON.

This won't be a cheap movie. Depp will getting a $20 million payday. Christoph Waltz is in talks, as is Noomi Rapace. Joseph Kosinski will fume.
