DJANGO UNCHAINED Asks “What Makes A Southern?”

You know, instead of a western.

Tarantino refers to Django Unchained as a "southern" instead of a western. And what makes a southern?

Evidently an outlaw gang, an experienced colleague, a ragged laconic hero, a flamboyant bandit and a damsel in distress. And, one presumes, the fact that it takes place in the south instead of the west.
