James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy film is going to generate news no matter what, but its casting rumors have been especially fun. Up to now, the stories have revolved around who might play Peter Quill/Star-Lord, especially when it came out that Joseph Gordon-Levitt could defect from DC's Batman plans to take the role. Even if he didn't, there are still guys like Zachary Levi and Jim Sturgess being considered.
Now we can throw another name on the stack, a name which - like Chucks's Zachari Levi - should please fans of nerdy television. Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum, the number one reason to watch that show according to all my lesbian friends, has auditioned for the role according to his twitter feed, which is more than likely covertly run by his evil demanding father, Lionel.
And just to keep adding to the pile, Slashfilm reports that The Office's John Krasinski is now up for the role as well.
We're also entering into Drax the Destroyer casting rumors, which is more exciting because it calls for more of a badass type. Right now three names are in the running: Isaiah Mustafa, Brian Patrick Wade and Dave Bautista. For those who don't know, Mustafa is famous for those funny Old Spice ads, as well as for his big role in Madea's Big Happy Family. Also: Simba's father.
Dave Bautista you might remember from being the man with the iron body in RZA's unfortunate The Man With the Iron Fists. As for Brian Patrick Wade, he was on three episodes of The Big Bang Theory. But I'm sure he's a nice guy.
I'm not at all versed in Guardians of the Galaxy, or Drax the Destroyer, so my opinion probably doesn't amount to much. Still, my fingers are crossed for Mustafa. I like him, and it's always a big kick for me when I see Tyler Perry actors in other projects, the same way people get excited whenever they see people from The Wire show up in other things (actually, I'm guilty of this as well.)
Hopefully, rumor-ville soon becomes locked down-villa. I'm excited for this cast to take shape.
