This is kind of an old story, but it's filled with funny stuff I didn't know about, so I'm writing it up anyway.
There is going to be a broadway musical starring Hugh Jackman and written by Aaron Sorkin about Houdini's battle against three ladies called "Spiritualists" who got lots of people to believe they could talk to dead people.
So right off the bat, this thing has my attention. We already know Hugh Jackman is adept at both singing and playing battle obsessed magicians, so it stands to reason that he'd be able to do both at the same time. On top of that, Aaron Sorkin is awesome. Plus, I can't wait to find out how Houdini offs these ladies!
But now it looks like Aaron Sorkin will have to leave the show because he's too busy with HBO's The Newsroom and his weirdly cool sounding Steve Jobs movie that does not star Ashton Kutcher but will somehow learn to survive anyway.
The show was going open later this year. It's not yet known how much Sorkin's departure will screw that up. Deadline reports that Sorkin already did a lot of work on the musical, so none of this may matter at all since the guy can apparently write whole television shows while brushing his teeth. Seriously, I'm watching The West Wing right now, and I think he's written every episode so far. That's incredible. You'd think he'd have this puny little Houdini thing drafted before his first Fox News inspired outrage of the day.
No word yet on how much Hugh Jackman cried while looking at himself in the mirror. But it was probably a lot.
