Bruce Lee Getting His Origin Rebooted

Expect a bold new reimagining that's closer to the original comics.

Bruce Lee has transcended the boundaries of reality and become a larger than life legend. The latest proof: Birth of the Dragon, an in-the-works movie that 're-imagines' Lee's 'origin story.'

The movie, The Hollywood Reporter says, will be "inspired by the true-life duel between Lee and Wong Jack Man, who was China’s most famous kung fu Master. The no-rules fight took place in San Francisco in 1965, when the city’s Chinatown was controlled by Hong Kong triads. The writers are using this true event as a jumping-off point for a wider-canvas action movie in which Wong and Lee team up to battle a band of Chinatown gangsters. The writers are using this true event as a jumping-off point for a wider-canvas action movie in which Wong and Lee team up to battle a band of Chinatown gangsters."

I'd complain that this was ground already covered by Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, but I can't really remember Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, so maybe that's an argument FOR a 'reboot.'

The writers attached to the project are Christopher Wilkinson and Stephen Rivele, who have credits on biopics Nixon and Ali... but who seem to have been rewritten on both those movies. So who knows.
