Bloody-Disgusting reports that Atonement and X-Men: First Class star James McAvoy is in talks to play Eric Draven in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's remake of The Crow, a role that has had several big names attached to it in the past, including Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper and Channing Tatum.
So no, this isn't really news until it's been confirmed, but I just wanted a chance to say that I'm pretty sure the time for The Crow has passed. I don't mean that a remake is sacrilegious - I loved The Crow as much as any depressed eighth-grader who fancied herself a goth, but I have no problem with its being rebooted in that sense. I only mean that James O'Barr's comic about the undead vigilante, and the Alex Proyas film adapting it, have a very specifically '90s aesthetic that is going to look really weird in 2013 (or '14 or '15 or '16, whenever this movie is finally made).
But listen, I somewhat like Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and I very much like James McAvoy, and that Forever 21 commercial I saw last week told me that the '90s are back, so this could be a perfect storm of random factors coming together to create something cool. Who knows!
