Deleted Tweets Indicate Black Panther Could Be Coming To The Movies

I mean, if actor Morris Chestnut is to be trusted.

How is Morris Chestnut a real name? It sounds like the name of a cartoon squirrel. It's just the most adorable name in the world.

But Morris Chestnut is in fact a real dude, and he's an actor. You probably know him best as Ricky from Boyz n the Hood, where he gets shot dead. He's also in the upcoming Kick-Ass 2. And he might be joining the Marvel Movieverse as Black Panther.

At least that's what everybody is speculating after Chestnut dropped some chestnuts on Twitter:

It’s time to get familiar with the Black Panther character !

He then quickly deleted that tweet.

Was he telling his fans to get familiar with the character? Or was he saying that he has to get familiar with the character for an audition or something? The deleting of the tweet certainly makes it all the more intriguing.

Here's a tweet he didn't delete. When someone told him he couldn't wait to see a Black Panther movie, Chestnut replied:

Not final. #BlackPanther may be in #avengers2 first.

It's possible that he's in talks with Marvel to play the character. I know that Black Panther has been on their to-do list for some time, and that there was some internal discussion about making him a Phase Two character. If he's going to be in Avengers 2 that would make him Phase Three. But is any of this true? This wouldn't be the first time an actor has put stuff out on Twitter to get him or herself some attention. Maybe Morris is in talks for another role, and he's using this as leverage. If he is in talks with Marvel, I'm sure the secretive studio is currently unhappy.

Black Panther is the character I'm most excited to see come to the big screen. I think he's a great character, I think his world is fascinating and I think Marvel could really break some boundaries by releasing a black superhero movie that's a hit. Now whether or not Morris Chestnut is the guy to play T'Challa...
