If you've never seen A Prophet, you really should. The film is outstanding. And I'm not the only person who thinks so. Sony has optioned the story for a remake to be produced by modern action dynamo producer Neal H. Mortiz.
This is neither a good nor a bad thing yet. The story, in which a young prison inmate manages to climb his way to the top of a crime mountain, is in many ways quite basic and therefore open to multiple tellings without anyone getting offended. A Prophet's particular strengths are more about execution. In that regard, a lot will rest on who they get to replace Tahar Rahim, whose performance is one of those flawless matches of character and actor. It'll be a complicated bit of casting for sure. Or maybe it will be a flavor of the month slot filling and the film will really suck. Personally, I'm pulling for the former.
