As promised, Warner Bros has released the first trailer for the second Hobbit film. And it's about as filled with incident as a first trailer can get.
Of the many teases and hints throughout, the two biggest bits here are the revelation of Smaug's face and a surprising amount of Legolas action. Smaug of course looks great, but am I alone in thinking something looks very strange about Orlando Bloom here? It's like he's half CG.
Book fans will find plenty to get excited about. Non-book fans will find plenty to get excited about as well, with the added bonus of having no idea what is new and what is adapted. And Evan Saathoff will enjoy a brief moment with his favorite character, Bird-poop Head the Slightly-White with Occasional Black Streaks.
Are you excited? Does this more action-packed trailer give you hopes that Peter Jackson may have saved all the good stuff for this entry? Keep in mind, the whole first part of the trailer is people walking. So he could be fooling us.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens this December. I am ashamed to admit a perverse excitement over the idea of seeing another film in 48fps.
