PROTOTYPE Filmmaking Contest Seeks The Next Great Filmmaker

Could it be you? If so, please make a GAMERA film, thanks.

Maybe you watch big action films with a huge frown on your face because you just know that, given the chance, you could do better. Well now is your chance to prove it. New Regency Productions and Break Media have united to find the next big thing in action-based genre filmmaking, and they are doing so with an exciting contest.

Here are the details:

Calling all filmmakers! We are proud to announce the launch of Prototype, an online film program in partnership with New Regency Productions, the studio behind Fight Club, LA Confidential, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.  The program will bring together the best of digital content distribution with a leader in film production to surfaace up and coming directorial talent that we will connect directly with Hollywood.  Eight promising filmmakers will be awarded $20,000 each to direct their own action, sci-fi or effects-driven short film. One of the eight finalists will win a coveted production deal with New Regency with the opportunity to develop their vision into a full-length feature.

The eight semi-finalist filmmakers will be selected among the entrants based on their script, previous work, and treatment for a feature film. They will be given $20,000 to make 5 – 10 minute short films based on their treatment. These short films will be distributed to Break Media’s web, mobile, YouTube and OTT platforms.  Executives from Break Media and New Regency will reveal the eight shorts in the Fall of 2013.  The grand prize winner, announced in early 2014, will score a New Regency production deal and the opportunity to develop their short into a feature-length film.

The official deadline for submissions is August 31, 2013 and check out the rules and additional guidelines. The program launched this week (June 20) and is already receiving amazing submissions from the creative community; details of the launch have been featured in Variety and The Wrap.

Prototype continues our expansion into longer form and feature-length projects. We are currently in production for Higher Power, our high-octane, effects-driven sci-fi thriller. The project is being produced co-produced by Break Media and Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, GI Joe) and will be directed by Hollywood filmmaker and VFX specialist Matt Santoro (300, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) from a script by Julia Fair.

Sounds pretty good. If you think you have what it takes, get on it! And when you become a major Hollywood player, please no more mopey, reluctant heroes.
