Badass Cuisine: Boris Karloff’s Spooky, Sherry-Infused Guacamole Recipe

Learn Mr. Karloff's personal recipe for a fine guacamole dip.

Universal Monsters, they're just like us! They have recipes for guacamole too! At least Boris Karloff, the seminal Frankenstein's Monster (and the Grinch and many other classic roles), did. And he shared it with a newspaper in the 1950s or 60s, judging by the photograph included. Here's the recipe, transcribed:

2 avocados

1 med. tomato, chopped fine

1 small onion, minced

1 tbsp. chopped canned green chiles

1 tbsp. lemon juice

1 tsp sherry

Dash cayenne, optional

Salt, pepper

Peel and mash avocados. Add onion, tomato and chiles, then stir in lemon juice, sherry and seasonings to taste, blending well. Serve as a dip for tortilla pieces or corn chips or as a canape spread. Makes 10 to 12 appetizer servings.

It's the sherry that makes this one exciting. If you make it, let us know what you think. I'll be trying it out this weekend!
