I really don't like Doctor Who. At all. Never did, either. Even as a kid I could barely sit through the cheap and tedious Tom Baker episodes my local PBS station played, and I only did so because they had robots and space and stuff and there was so little of that kind of thing available to me otherwise. I've given the new version a bunch of shots and every time I'm met with awful writing, tragic FX and irritating guys in the lead role. Doctor Who is not for me.
That said, I'm probably going to give it one more try now that Peter Capaldi has been cast as the Twelfth Doctor. And that's all because of one amazing character Capaldi has played, Malcolm Tucker from In the Loop and The Thick of It. Tucker is the foulest mouthed British civil servant in history, and In the Loop is - no hyperbole - one of the funniest movies ever made. Capaldi is incredible in the role, and he's earned himself a lifetime of good will based solely on Tucker.
Someone has envisioned what it would be like if Capaldi played his version of The Doctor as Malcolm Tucker, and they managed to find some great scifi-sounded clips from The Thick of It to make it work. I do wish there were more mind-bogglingly inventive cursing in this, but I think it gets the job done.
