Hugh Jackman Set For Neill Blomkamp’s CHAPPIE

What role will he have in the scifi comedy?

Neill Blomkamp is moving full speed ahead on his next original scifi film, Chappie, although this one will be different from his previous two. Where District 9 and Elysium were fairly serious action films, Chappie is being described as a comedy full of heart. In the film a South African robot cop (voiced by Sharlto Copley) gets kidnapped by two gangsters (those creeps from Die Antwoord, the worst joke band ever), who want to use him for some sort of evil or something.

The latest casting news: Hugh Jackman has confirmed he'll be in Chappie, telling Screen Daily

So it sounds like a small part. But what is it? Bleeding Cool thinks that it's a human CEO who hates the gangsters. That sounds like the kind of thing that would be in a Neill Blomkamp movie.

I didn't hate Elysium, but there's no denying that it's a massive disappointment. A change of tone could be exactly what the director needs to follow that up.

Here's the short on which Chappie will be based, Tetra Vaal:
