Tom Hiddleston To Star In Ben Wheatley’s HIGH RISE
Ben Wheatley's next movie is coming out this weekend (A Field In England, from our sister company Drafthouse Films!) but his next next movie doesn't start filming until June. And when it does Wheatley will be joined by a guy who is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors, Tom HIddleston. Wheatley revealed via Twitter that Hiddleston is the star of High Rise, an adaptation of the JG Ballard novel.
In High Rise a future apartment building is so advanced and self-contained the inhabitants are totally cut off from the rest of the world. When the power begins to fail and things fall apart the inhabitants start escalating into violence; the building ends up separated into three warring factions - literally the lower class on the bottom floors, the middle class right in the center and the upper class in the luxurious top levels. Legendary producer Jeremy Thomas has been trying to get the movie made for thirty years, and over time Nicolas Roeg and Vincenzo Natali have been attached.
But now it looks like Ben Wheatley is taking it all the way, and Loki's coming with him. That means Hiddleston will go from working with Guillermo del Toro on Crimson Peak to working with Ben Wheatley - all of our favorite geekiest directors. He may even have time in between to swing by and shoot a cameo for The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
