If you're familiar with Adult Swim's dearly departed Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job, then there's a very good chance you're familiar with the recurring character John C. Reilly played on that series, a doctor (we're using that term extremely loosely here) by the name of Steve Brule. Back in 2010, Reilly's Brule character proved popular enough to earn his own spin-off, Check It Out! With Dr. Steve Brule, and there was much rejoicing. But after two very brief seasons - made all the more brief thanks to the show's 11-minutes-per-episode run time - many of us assumed that the series had reached its end.
Not so! Earlier this week, we heard that Check It Out! would return later this month. Shortly thereafter, the video below popped up and made it official: Check It Out! returns on February 27th:
If you're not excited about this, I feel kind of sorry for you.
If you've not bothered with Check It Out! because you once watched Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job (or Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie, a fan that even die-hard Tim and Eric enthusiasts such as myself have trouble justifying) and enjoyed several weeks' worth of nightmares for your trouble, I'd implore you to give Dr. Steve Brule a day in court. It's not quite as weird as Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim's original Adult Swim series was, and episodes tend to follow a bit more of a straight line, narratively speaking, than Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job ever did. It's bizarre, and often disturbingly so, but it's not quite as jarring.
Here's my favorite episode, "Fear", for the uninitiated:
Speak up, BAD: am I the only one that's pumped about this? Or are you just as pumped to see the good doctor back on the air as I am?
