Scandal: Scarlet Witch To Not Dress As A Lingerie Model In AGE OF ULTRON

Elizabeth Olsen explains her costume will differ from the comics.

Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, is one of the most famous, popular and powerful female characters in the Marvel Universe. She's appearing as a toddler in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but she'll be getting the star treatment in The Avengers: Age of UltronDOFP is skipping the question of how to costume her by reducing her age (a picture in Empire shows baby Wanda wearing a princess-gown version of her superhero costume, a wry nod), but Age of Ultron will have to tackle this issue head on.

And what an issue, because the Scarlet Witch's usual costume is basically lingerie. She wears a red body stocking under her bustier, which gives the illusion of a costume, but really she's dressed like a Bourbon Street hooker. Which hey, if that empowers her, good for her. Nobody's judging.

Well, maybe a little. That costume works on the page, but when translated into reality it would look like something from a fetish movie, which probably isn't what Marvel Studios is aiming for with Age of Ultron (all the fetish stuff that comes out of their movies - and go to Tumblr, there's a lot - is a secondary bonus), so they're changing the outfit for the film.

Says Olsen:

"I don't think Joss ever would have hired me, honestly, if he wanted me to wear those outfits; I am not a professional athlete and nor am I a model. Wearing those costumes wouldn't be fun for anyone who wasn't those things. He already had a different idea. It respects and involves the comic-book character but it's different, more rooted. It's for someone today...Well, if someone walked around wearing what she wore in the comics, people would stop and say, 'What the hell...she thinks she's a superhero.'"

I don't think that's what people would be saying, honestly. Exhibitionist, if they were being kind.

I'm curious to see what the outfit looks like. What makes me sad is the knowledge that there's no way her headress makes it into the movie, and frankly that's the most iconic part of the Scarlet Witch to me.
