What is a spoiler? We wrestle with this question a lot, and for some people pretty much anything about a movie is a spoiler. I'm sure there's a listing in the DSM-5 for them. For others a spoiler is a major plot point meant to be revealed. We've already discussed whether the identity of the Winter Soldier - no secret in the real world - is a spoiler in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now we can discuss whether someone dying is a spoiler.

What makes that question key is whether that death is a main motivator of the plot of the movie. And since that death is spoiled in the latest TV spot for Captain America: The Winter Soldier - ie the people releasing the movie feel like it's knowledge they want you to have in advance - we have to wonder if it's really a spoiler. See, this death is a major part of the actual plot of the movie, a big answer to what the threat and stakes are. Everything we've seen from Winter Soldier so far has been vague, but now the marketing is pushing into the actual story. And that story involves a death.

Of course the question remains whether you think the dead character in question will be truly dead, or will remain that way.
