According to an interview Magic Mike's Joe Manganiella conducted with Collider, the much loved male stripper movie will begin shooing a sequel as early as this fall. He thinks:
Yeah, it’s gonna happen this fall. I think they’re going to announce it soon. It’s crazy. I didn’t think that would be my first franchise. I never thought that would ever be the direction of my career. But that said, it’s just proof that I don’t know best, all the time. It was the most fun I’ve ever had, and I can’t wait to get back in and mix it up with those guys.
The film does not yet have a director, but Channing Tatum has given indications that this new male stripper adventure might be a road trip comedy. That sounds like my kind of stupid, which is good news because I didn't love Magic Mike as much as everyone else I have ever met in my life - including my 8th grade math teacher, who immediately left his wife and became one of South East Kansas' most notorious elderly erotic entertainers when the film came out. If it really is just a bunch of male strippers driving a van across the country, farting a lot and eating junk food, it could be enough to return him to the family and job he abandoned so long ago. My fingers are crossed because he is missed.
As for my toes, they are crossed for a Magic Mike 3 where the boys come up against a cadre of female strippers with whom they compete in a dangerous game of pranking oneupmanship before accidentally falling in love and having a huge group of children who all become future evil politicians in YA dystopia novels.
