I am so excited for the upcoming Stanley Film Festival. I'm excited to return to the gorgeous (and possibly haunted) Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, but more than that I'm excited for the awesome films and packed weekend of fun the festival is putting on.
Today they announced that Joe Dante will be attending the fest, and he'll be getting their Master of Horror award. That makes the whole trip worth it in itself, but there's more! They announced that I will be hosting the Spectrevisionaries panel, for instance. What's that? Luckily I have this copied, let me paste it:
Founded in 2010 by partners Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller, SpectreVision is a film production and music management company created to tell heartfelt, character-driven stories tackling real, social and emotional issues that test the boundaries of the horror genre.
PANELISTS: Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah, Josh Waller, Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night), Craig MacNeill (The Boy)
That should be cool. Ryan Turek of Shock Til You Drop will be hosting a panel about the survival of independent horror with some big names attending:
In a genre often clogged with cliche and camp, new auteurs emerge with gruesome ideas and innovative executions that keep the horror alive. Learn secrets of the shoestring trade and production horror stories from those who lived to tell the tales.
PANELISTS: Ti West (The Sacrament), Larry Fessenden (Tales From Beyond The Pale, Wendingo), Glenn McQuaid (I Sell The Dead, Tales From Beyond The Pale), Travis Stevens (Cheap Thrills, Jodorowsky’s Dune, Starry Eyes)
And there's another cool panel, hosted by Twitch's Ryland Aldrich, about marketing and selling horror in the modern world, featuring an appearance by Drafthouse Films!
Get to know the buyers, sellers, distributors, and exhibitors of the finest in world horror as they discuss the realities of peddling genre cinema in today’s climate.
PANELISTS: James Shapiro (Drafthouse Films), Peter Van Steemburg (Magnolia Pictures) Crystal Decker Orren (Well Go USA Entertainment)
BUT WAIT! There's more!
Sunday, the last day of the fest, at 1pm, I'll be hosting a Big Wheels Death Race. Contestants will ride adult size Big Wheels around the grounds of the Stanley Hotel, basically becoming giant Danny Torrances. And this isn't just for fun - the winning team (it's a team thing!) will get a free night stay at the Stanley Hotel. That's a huge prize, and one worth competing mightily for!
The Stanley Film Festival runs April 24th-27th at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. It's not too late to get involed. Click here for ticket information.
