About once every 24 hours a new potential Steven Spielberg project comes along. I usually ignore them, like sunsets. But occasionally one comes along that demands special attention, like sunsets when there's a really disastrous fire nearby.
According to Variety, Spielberg will direct an adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG. This was going to be a John Madden project, but that director has found himself too busy directing The Next Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and doing voice-over work for his annual Football video games. Now it's apparently a Spielberg joint. So if you ever want to hurt Spielberg's feelings, tell him that as a director of kids films he won second place to John Madden.
E.T. writer Melissa Mathison will write the script and Frank Marshall will produce. Production is expected to begin early 2015 for a 2016 release.
For those who don't know, The BFG is a great book about a friendly giant named Big Fucking Gun. Kids have been reading it since forever.
