I'm left cold by this trailer for The Leftovers, Damon Lindelof's Rapture drama on HBO. There are a lot of reasons this could be the case: Damon Lindelof might be one of them. The words "Rapture drama" might be another. Growing up, I had to resort to Christian fiction for all of my entertainment (them's the rules), and I may be suffering from Left Behind-induced trauma.
But mostly I just don't like the trailer very much. It feels messily operatic while also weirdly boring. It's got a great cast: Curtiss Cook, Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler and more are all part of the ensemble. The Leftovers (and Election!) author Tom Perrotta is creator alongside Lindelof, and the source material is supposed to be great. But I watch the trailer and feel pretty nothing about it.
Am I alone on this? Did it work for any of you guys?
