COMEDIANS IN CARS GETTING COFFEE Renewed For A Million Seasons
Relative to other web series out there, Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is extremely popular. This is especially true after a Super Bowl thing earlier this year which found Seinfeld reunited with George Costanza and his arch nemesis Newman in an episode that was not really an episode (and was also kind of awkward to watch in general).
After that stint, Sony's Crackle thingy - about which I said plenty of nice things here - renewed the show for two additional seasons. Then yesterday, they saw that the show has garnered over 40 million streams and said "Fuck it" and added four more seasons on top of that. This means Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which just ended only its third season, is now in the bag for nine seasons total.
That is a lot of comedians in a lot of cars getting a lot of coffee (and lunches, but that's not as alliterative). And I couldn't be happier. There's a certain beauty to this show that comes not from Seinfeld's candid interviews with comedians but from the candid look we get at Seinfeld himself. It is fascinating to see a guy who, frankly, is kind of an uncool jerk be an uncool jerk without any hesitation or shame. A lot of celebrities want to act like one of us. Seinfeld doesn't give a shit. He's totally comfortable in his (typically ugly) shoes and confronts the world without a hint of affectation. I love him for it.
So if you haven't seen the show yet, I highly recommend you give it a shot. There are plenty of great episodes just waiting and, from the sound of things, plenty more to come.
By the way, as I said earlier this news came out yesterday. It is not just yesterday's news but last month's news. I am awful at my job!
