We don't get new James Cameron films all that often, largely because each new one requires the invention of some new technology and must change the game in some fashion. It's been five years since Avatar rebuilt the popular culture landscape in its own image, so we're probably about due.
Unfortunately, the next Avatar chapter won't come out for another few years, but in the meantime, we can enjoy a different sort of new James Cameron film this summer. Variety reports that James Cameron's Deapsea Challenge 3D will get an August 8 release. It's actually directed by John Bruno, Andrew Wight, and Ray Quint, but does star James Cameron and feature advanced gadgetry, so close enough.
The plot is simple. James Cameron takes a nifty new submarine down to the deepest part of the ocean. Once there, he participates in a series of challenges, most of which involve foam props, food fights, and copious amounts of ooze for whenever Cameron fails to complete one of the challenges. According to the title, the film will be in 3D.
