Though I hear The Sacrament is the real deal, I've traditionally not been fond of Ti West. So keep that in mind when I tell you that his next project sounds like it could be must-see material.
Yesterday Deadline reported that American Horror Story's Taissa Farmiga would join West's In a Valley of Violence, a revenge western starring Ethan Hawke and John Travolta. Let me say that again just so it's clear. Actually, I don't want to type it all again. Just read it twice.
The report offered all this Travolta/Hawke/Revenge Western business as though it were common knowledge, which means I must have been sleeping on the job. This is all news to me, and exciting news at that.
I make fun of John Travolta a lot, but I actually really like him whenever he's not embarrassing himself with trying to look like a cool guy. He's a very willing actor with few borders and not much self awareness, but that means he occasionally tries things he shouldn't that end up working anyway. His role as a Siberian killer in last year's Killing Season is a great example. I'm thinking a gritty western might also be a good incongruous matchup for him, particularly led by someone as restrained as Ti West.
So there you go. You could do a lot worse than to start your day with this hefty dose of optimism. Now go take on the world! Actually, it's Friday. Coast through today, and take on the world Monday! Well, Monday is a holiday. But Tuesday, though. Tuesday better watch out.
