Look Upon Thy Blessings: THE RAID Remake Is Delayed

Casting issues may be causing this remake some problems.

Once upon a time, Patrick Hughes' English remake of The Raid was going to start filming this September. Now that start date has been pushed back to some vague time in the first part of 2015.

According to Variety, casting issues could be the source of this delay. No actors have been cast yet, but names like Luke Evans, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, and Ethan Hawke are supposed frontrunners. The idea is that maybe not everyone's schedules are lined up right now, and with a little patience, the film can get the cast it wants.

That's actually a fine reason to hold off. When it comes to guys like Luke Evans, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, and Ethan Hawke, you really don't want to settle for their cheaper equivalents. Most of us don't want a remake of The Raid, but it'll be that much worse if it's occupied by Richard Grieco, Anthony Anderson, Sean Patrick Flanery, and Skeet Ulrich.

In the meantime, we can put away our fears of a The Raid remake aside for at least another six months. And who knows, maybe when the film does eventually come out it will have enough of its own identity to make a positive impression. It is a pretty loose premise, after all. There's plenty of room to make it worth watching. Oh man, it's already Wednesday!
