Jeremy Smith at Ain't It Cool did the thing I like to do, which is hide a little bit of potential news at the bottom of an unrelated story. In this case while reporting on the supposed WB/DC Comics slate, he said this:
I have been told that THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 has been moved to an undetermined date in 2017. Time for a second reboot?
He's kidding about the second reboot, but he's not kidding about the delay. It makes sense; the film is currently scheduled for 2016, but with Amazing Spider-Man 2 very much not working - it's coming in behind all the previous films - it makes sense that Sony is going to regroup and figure out how the hell to stop the bleeding. Because this franchise is very much bleeding out, and even 3D surcharges and big foreign box office (2 was pretty much comparable to 1 overseas, while it plummeted in the US) can't help it.
What will they do? I already touched on this last month. What do you think the answer is?
