Hank Williams is easily one of the five most important Americans who ever lived, and his tragic story is in many ways the template for all the pop stars who ever followed. He came from a working class family and his innate musical ability made him not just famous but also profoundly influential on all American popular music. But his star burned very bright, and at the age of 29 he was died in the backseat of a car at a gas station on New Year's Eve of 1952. He died of a heart attack brought on by drugs and alcohol. His last single: I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive.
There was a movie about Hank made in 1964, starring George Hamilton, and now there's gonna be another one... this time starring Loki. Tom Hiddleston has signed on to star in I Saw The Light, a new Hank biopic to be directed by Marc Abraham, a prolific producer whose previous directing credit is.. Flash of Light, about the guy who invented the intermittent windshield wiper.
Hiddleston is physically an awesome choice for Hank, and I bet he'll capture the drawl perfectly. What's really exciting is that Hiddleston will sing Hank's songs himself. I'm kind of psyched about Tumblr suddenly getting turned on to classic country. The movie shoots in October, so that means Hiddleston could be campaigning for an Oscar in 2015.
