I couldn't be any more excited about this. As longtime readers of the site know, Planet of the Apes is my jam. I feel grateful that the reboot of the series hasn't just been good, it's been great, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes continues that with more apes on horses with guns. And with lots of moral and political complexity as well, of course.
Which is why I'm excited to announce that this Sunday I will be hosting a screening of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes at the Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline in Austin, Texas followed by a Q&A with Andy Serkis - Caesar himself! - Gary Oldman and director Matt Reeves. It's going to be a blast, and if you're in Austin or can get to Austin you can get free tickets by clicking here. Thanks to 20th Century Fox for making this amazing event happen.
Here's what I had to say in the official press release that went out just moments ago:
“It's easy to be cynical about reboots and remakes, but these new APES films have broken the mold by being original, intelligent, and incredibly well made. Beyond the boundary-pushing FX, the new APES films are great stories about strong characters dealing with sci-fi versions of problems facing the world today. DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES isn't just a terrific sequel to RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, it's completely in the spirit of the original series' commitment to marrying action and adventure with a smart reflection of the world around us. It's a damn good time at the movies that will have you standing in the lobby discussing and arguing with your friends hours after it ends.'
But if you're not in Austin don't worry, we have you covered. Apes together strong, even if separated by distance. The Q&A is going to be livestreamed right here on Badass Digest. Bookmark this page to be ready for the livestream this Sunday!
The screening begins at 3pm CT this Sunday, June 29th. The Q&A is scheduled to begin at 5:15 Central Time. Your excitement should begin right now.
