SDCC: Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar Discuss BATMAN THE ORIGINAL SERIES Kind Of

They still got it!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending a press conference for the impending release of The Batman Original Series on home video. It comes out on November 11. I wasn’t at the fancy pants Hall H presentation, so I didn’t get to see any clips or the box art. In fact, I don’t really have any news at all, unless this is the first you’ve heard of the long awaited box set. In which case, I’m so glad you finally got caught up!

But the panel was amazing regardless of its lack of substance. Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar charmed all of our pants off. And then we collectively got over the shame of having no pants and really bonded as a group.

Seriously though, the panel was amazing. Here’s why: Adam West and Julie Newmar were flirting with each other hardcore. Then nerdy-ass Burt Ward kept interrupting their heated back and forths in a manner that was either completely oblivious or diabolical, depending on how clever you find Burt Ward. Instead of hearing them talk about the TV show, it was like watching an episode play out right in front of me.

They did talk about the show, however. Most of it revolved around how often the filmmakers tried to kill Burt Ward. In one case, they hung him upside down ten feet above a couple of tigers. When the tigers refused to do anything interesting, they dangled some raw steak by Burt Ward’s head. There’s just something about Burt Ward that rubs the world the wrong way. And yet he’s still here, kicking ass and looking like he should be one of the Beach Boys.

So to sum up: Batman the Original Series comes out November 11, Comic-Con is really fun, and Burt Ward is not a good wingman.
