THE JUNGLE BOOK: Christopher Walken To FINALLY Play An Orangutan

This should have happened a long time ago.

Jon Favreau’s take on Disney’s The Jungle Book keeps booking through the casting process, picking up all kinds of badasses along the way.

Today we learn that Christopher Walken, star of Joe Dirt, has joined the cast as King Louie, the orangutan. On top of that, Giancarlo Esposito will play Akela, the wolf pack leader.

Obviously, this is all just voice casting, so none of these titans (a list including Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o, Ben Kingsley, and Scarlett Johansson) will actually be on set crawing around on all fours. This is a particularly unfortunate missed opportunity when it comes to Walken’s potential orangutan performance. The Jungle Book may end up being good, but there’s little chance it will deliver something that good.

The Jungle Book opens October 9, 2015.
